Corporate Training Needs Diagnostic
Use these questions before choosing a course. The objective is to identify the required performance, current evidence, likely cause and whether learning can realistically close the gap.
1. Define the performance
- What should the person or team do differently?
- What standard, output or behaviour shows success?
- Who agrees that this is the required performance?
2. Gather evidence
- What is happening now?
- How do we know: observation, quality, time, customer, manager or workforce data?
- Is the gap consistent or situational?
3. Test the likely cause
- Knowledge or skill
- Unclear expectations or authority
- Process, tool or system limitation
- Workload, staffing or opportunity
- Motivation, consequence or management support
4. Choose the response
- Training and practice
- Coaching or feedback
- Process or role clarification
- Tool, resource or staffing change
- Management decision
Decision ruleRecommend training only when a meaningful part of the gap depends on knowledge, skill or practised judgement—and participants will have a real opportunity to apply it.
